"The healing of our present woundedness may lie in recognizing and reclaiming the capacity we have to heal each other...

Everyone alive has suffered.  It is the wisdom gained from our wounds and from our own experiences of suffering that makes us able to heal...

Expertise cures, but wounded people can best be healed by other wounded people.  Only other wounded people can understand what is needed, for the healing of suffering is compassion, not expertise."

I am a native of California and have resided in the Chicago area since 2004.  Prior to my massage career, I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreation Administration, and worked in the Therapeutic Recreation field for four years.  It was during this time that I developed a keen interest in how the human body works, primarily as a direct result of working with athletes with physical disabilities who complained of muscular and joint pain they endured from competitive sports.  This prompted me to pursue a career in massage therapy.

Since then, my training in the healing arts and style of working with people has both evolved and expanded.  My passion for understanding why and how the body holds onto and releases stress, in addition to its psycho-spiritual connection to emotions, fostered my interest in exploring different types of massage, bodywork, and other therapeutic modalities to address these areas.  I received training on the island of Maui, Hawaii, in Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage, an ancient and sacred Hawaiian healing art, and more recently I have recevied training in Shiatsu and bodywork at Zen Shiatsu Chicago.  I am also a Reiki Master Practitioner and Meditation Instructor.

At the Lighthouse Emotional Wellness Center, I am currently the Director of Integrative Health, and Emotion-Focused Body Therapist.  I am a Certified Member of Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP), and nationally certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).  Along with fellow staff, I teach and facilitate workshops, but primarily focus on providing Emotion-Focused Body TherapyTM Sessions (EFBT), which I assisted in developing at the Lighthouse.  I am pleased to announce that in September 2009 I will be attaining certification in Oncology Massage, and will subsequently offer this important service to both cancer survivors and those living with cancer.

During my seven years of experience in the healing arts, my passion for my work continues to grow.  I am always challenged and inspired in my sessions with people.  It is because of what I do that I have experienced my own tremendous spiritual and emotional growth, allowing me to approach my work with compassion and understanding  towards others' healing processes as they unfold.  This constantly propels me to strengthen my skills and to continue learning new modalities.  I find immense gratitude and satisfaction in this work,  as I have witnessed so many people go through incredible transformation and change.
